Owners Scott & Gail Hagee have been certified organic pear and apple orchardists for over 18 years, and have transformed a portion of their property into vineyards, winery with tasting room, and a lovely guest house and cottage rental. Located just 60 miles east of Portland Oregon, Pheasant Valley Vineyard and Winery is in the heart of the Hood River Valley. The winery is quickly becoming one of the most recognized and awarded wineries in the Columbia Gorge. Once the home of a organic pear and apple orchard, the winery came to fruition when owners, Scott and Gail Hagee, replaced 16 of the acres with Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Tempranillo and Gewurztraminer grapes. The couple then converted their packing house into a tasting room and opened in April 2004. Since then, Pheasant Valley has grown its wine list to more than 15 varieties. All the wines are made with grapes grown locally, either in the Columbia Gorge or Columbia Valley appellations. The diverse climate in these appellations allow for the cultivation of almost any wine. Pheasant Valley currently bottles a number of different varietals including Chardonnay, Riesling, Zinfandel, Temprannillo, Syrah, and Pinot Noir. The winery prides itself on having Pinot Noirs that rival that of the famous Willamette Valley's. In fact, in 2006 Pheasant Valley produced an Estate Organic Pinot Noir with non added sulfites (the first harvest of the grapes) which won a Gold Medal at the 2007 Northwest Wine Summit. Aside from your typical wine varietals, Pheasant Valley also produces a semi-sweet, semi-dry Organic Pear ine that has quickly become one of the wineries hottest sellers. Pheasant Valley wines have received accolades and recommendations from
the Oregon Wine Press, Wine Press Northwest Magazine, Wine and Spirtis
Magazine, the Bite of Oregon, the Oregon Seafood and Wine festival,
and numerous other events and publications. Our tasting room has also
been featured in Touring and Tasting Magazine, the Oregonian and will
appear in a Travel Channel-Europe series that focuses on the Northwest,
set to air in January '09. |
