The Hood River, Columbia Gorge is located in the Pacific Northwest of the U.S.A. between the borders
of Washington and Oregon states. It's latitude is similar to that of the Bordeaux region in France.

You can spend years exploring all that the Columbia River Gorge has to offer, from history and natural wonders like Mount Hood, to Windsurfing, Kitesurfing, Kayaking, Fishing, Hiking, mountain biking, boating, birding, wildflowers, rock climbing and wine tasting.

The Columbia Gorge is now it's own wine appellation and has over 23 wineries. You can sample award wining Chardonnay's Reislings, Zinfandel, Pinot Noir, Barbera, Cabernet, Merlot, Ports, blends and other organic wines. The Columbia Gorge AVA has lighter wines such as Chardonnay, Reisling & Pinot Noir in its western reaches to fuller bodied reds such as Syrah, Barbera and Cabernet in its eastern portion.

As of July 9, 2004, the Columbia Gorge Appellation became a federally designated grape-growing region. The diversity of grapes, the soil, climate differences, and elevation make the Gorge a uniquely wonderful place for growing grapes.

The Columbia Gorge has long been famous for its fine pears, apples, cherries and other fruit. Early settlers planted grape vines along the Columbia’s shores. Gorge soils accumulated from floods, volcanic eruptions and landslides and are therefore perfect for grape growing. The Columbia Gorge lay as an undiscovered viticultural gem in the early 1970’s. In the late 1980’s and early ‘90’s some of the fruit from the early vineyards planted started getting into the hands of very good winemakers. These winemakers were willing to experiment and were able to recognize quality wine grapes. Soon the Columbia Gorge was recognized for its world-class varietals and began wining national awards.
